I recently stumbled onto a book entitled Home Comforts: The Art and Science of Keeping House. One of the Reviewers agreed with the author (a Harvard law grad) that housekeeping is a dying art!

I haven't read the book yet, but it got me to thinking about the fact that modern Americans have mostly drifted far from their grandmothers' standards for keeping house. I venture to guess that the author finds this a sad reality, and entertains a wistful nostalgia for days gone by when homes were kept by mothers who probably made it a big part of their life work, and family members reaped the benefits of clean, orderly rooms, sanitary bathrooms, and kitchens stocked with groceries for home-cooked meals.

An online article entitled 10 Cleaning Skills to Teach Your Child also grabbed my attention. Great idea since Moms and Dads are so busy, and children need the sense of contributing to the family's well being. There's nothing that will do more to enhance children's sense of self-esteem in my opinion.
