While the rise of the bedbug population has been dramatically on the rise in the U.S., there are some safe, green pest prevention tips that can prevent an infestation in your home. When bringing in clothing or sheets or towels from any outside source, let them tumble in your clothes dryer for 20 minutes. According to Snopes, this will kill off any opportunistic beasties like bedbugs, as long as the temperature rises to and does not drop below 113 degrees F. When you travel and stay at motels or hotels, set your suitcases on the metal suitcase racks if provided. If there are no racks, keep the suitcases in the bathtub when it's not in use. Upon returning from your travel, wash and dry your clothing right away, or at least tumble the clean ones in the dryer for 20 minutes. An ounce of prevention is worth many pounds of cure in this case!
