You've just found out that your old college roommate is in the area and wants to stop by to see you in half an hour. No need to panic. With these few speed-cleaning tips, you'll be as cool as a cucumber when she rings the doorbell.
1. Gather your supplies. You'll need a box or basket to hold all the items that don't belong in the living room (otherwise known as clutter). Grab a Webster (cobweb brush on an extension handle), microfiber dust cloth and a vacuum.
2. Glance up at where the ceiling and walls meet to see if there are any visible cobwebs. Make short work of them with your Webster if you see any. Make one circle around the room to pick up all the stuff that belongs elsewhere. Don't try to put those items away just now, just move them to the master bedroom or laundry room to take care of later.
3. Take your microfiber dust cloth and work in one direction around the room from high to low, dusting all horizontal surfaces. There's no time right now for detailing knick knacks or using furniture polish.
4. Starting at the point farthest from your exit door, vacuum the floor, backing toward the exit as you go.
5. If you have time to cut some fresh flowers from the yard, that finishing touch will really say "welcome, friend!"
